Soul wide receiver Chris Jackson is the 2008 Arena Football League Offensive Player of the Year. The news was officially announced Thursday evening. This is the second time he received the honor, with the last time being ’03 as a member of the Los Angeles Avengers.
“This is a tremendous individual award,” Jackson said. “However, I couldn’t have done it without my teammates and we have a bigger goal in mind in winning the Arena Bowl and that’s where my focus is right now.”
Jackson is the Soul’s top offensive threat this season with 1,719 receiving yards and and 50 touchdowns. Jackson closed out the regular season second in the AFL for lifetime receiving touchdowns (318), second for lifetime receiving yards (13,229) and is tied with Barry Wagner for second in receptions (991).
With three more touchdown receptions, he will tie Cory Fleming and Eddie Brown for third all-time in AFL history with 37 playoff touchdowns. Jackson also needs five more receptions to become the seventh player to tally 100 career playoff receptions.
