For those who we left hanging last month following the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Gymnastics, the suspense is over as USA Gymnastics finalized the six women and three replacement athletes that will make up the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team for women’s gymnastics. Shawn Johnson and Nastia Lunkin were both named to the squad following the conclusion of June’s event at the Wachovia Center.
Saturday, it was announced that Chellsie Memmel, Samantha Peszek, Alicia Sacramone, Bridget Sloan landed the other team spots.
From last month’s predictions only Shayla Worley missed the cut a Sloan took her spot. Jana Bieger, Ivana Hong and Carrie Lothrop are the three replacements.
“The U.S. Team has been assembled to give us the best chance in Beijing,” said Steve Penny, president of USA Gymnastics. “This group of athletes has worked hard to position USA Gymnastics as a strong contender for medals.”
