Back in the game

It’s been awhile … which is why I’m taking over. Your beloved pro-sports blogger has had some important duties to attend to, but neglecting Philadelphia sports at this time is just not an option. We’re on the cusp of history here people!

I’m unfortunately watching the Philly-Rays series from France. And my heart bleeds every time I watch the games and there’s not a single person around me to high-five or grumble with when yet another man is left on base. But such is life, and the World Series crown won’t be any less sweet on this side of the Atlantic.

We’re gearing up for Game 3 with the series split 1-1. It was a bit idealistic to think this thing would be wrapped in 4 after the Game 1 win, but the players take the field in Citizens Bank Park this time for the first World Series ever contended on its brilliantly green grass. What could be sweeter?

I know the decibel level in the park tonight will be off the charts and I hope our fans represent the city well. There were some stories swirling around about our bad rep in Tampa; let’s hope we win this one with some grace.

In other Series related stories:

Since there was a base stolen during the Series (we’ll assume it was Utley’s in Game 1) Taco Bell is giving out free tacos Tues. Oct. 28 from 2 to 6 p.m. local time. For details, click here: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/fan_forum/tacobell/?partnerId=MLB_enews_tacobell

Also, I don’t know how I feel about the manufactured “Why can’t us?” campaign. If you haven’t heard, apparently on XM RadioBaseball last week someone from Delaware called in saying: “Boston did it. The White Sox did it. Why can’t us? Why can’t us.” Which has now been taken and turned into a rally for the Phillies 2008 chase. Do we really need to attach our city’s image to horrible grammar? The rest of the country already doesn’t think so highly of our fanbase.

Funny? Maybe. But if you buy and wear the T-shirt, the jokes on you.
