Looks like Pat Burrell will be heading for the sunny weather down in Florida, as he and the Devil Rays inked a two-year $16-million deal today.
Word on the street (or web, rather) is he will be the Rays’ regular DH, a role he’s probably comfortable in and something he showed he could do in 2009. (Though I don’t think he was much at the plate prior to this year’s numbers.)
Philadelphia will undoubtedly hold a proverbial moment of silence now that Burrell’s (inevitable) move is finalized. Ranked third in all-time homers in Philadelphia Phillies history, our beloved left fielder packs up his bags to end his nine-year run in the City of Brotherly Love. Since being picked first overall by the Phils almost a decade ago, you have done us proud.
