Free falling

The NFL’s free-agency dealing kicks off this Friday, though the Eagles have already set themselves up to be major players in the coming mix. Team president Joe Banner said the Eagles will be one the top eight teams in the league in terms of salary cap space, alluding to somewhere between $40 and $50 million worth of room.

After signing Joselio Hanson to a five-year deal, the Birds have nine free agents of their own to worry about.

Undeniably, last year’s pick up of Asante Samuel from the Patriots was a huge free agent move — and one that paid large dividends down the stretch. With no huge gaps to fill this year and lots of other teams with change ready to be dispensed, perhaps the Eagles will keep their hands out of the big-name pool and focus on keeping together what’s already working.

A big guy down the field, however, is always worth the money … just saying …
