Stepping back

Opening day is less than two weeks away and, despite the still rather chilly temps, I can smell the fresh-cut grass at Citizens Bank Park already.

One person who will need to take a very deep inhale to get that spring scent is Kyle Kendrick. After a rocky close out in 2008, which saw him left off the World Series roster, the warmth of the Sunshine State hasn’t been good to Kyle.

After going 1-3 with a 9.20 ERA in the Grapefruit League, the Phils decided to option the young pitcher to the minors, meaning he is out of the running for the fifth starter position he was vying for since losing it last year when he went 1-4 with an 11.35 ERA during six starts in mid-August to early September.
