Stringing together a trifecta of wins, the Phils managed to put back-to-back-to-back Division Championship titles into the record books.
The battle to become NL East champs was hard fought in 2009, with, unfortunately, the majority of the competition coming from themselves. It seemed the defedning champs were determined to thwart their own success in September.
Unknowns still carry us into the post season, with looming uncertainties at closer.
The Phillies’ formula has seemed to be one of putting in a pitcher for a specific batter, almost wholly ignoring traditionally defined pitching roles.
The talent has allowed the champs to remain on top, but it’s simply a matter of time before we see if the system crumbles in our eager hands or emerges as a path to victory.
