Perfection. One of 20 ever – that’s what Roy Halladay accomplished last night. He entered the history books, and also logged the second-only perfect game in Phillies’ history. It was a high note – one spotlighted by his continuous insistence that Ruiz was really the mastermind behind the effort – and something that goes down for the ages.
Halladay has been modest, unassuming and quick to put credit on everyone around him rather than take credit himself. Which is endearing and encouraging.
Unfortunately, the Phillies’ ace’s success has been somewhat overshadowed by the Phillies’ inability to put runs on the board.
While we bask in the fading light of a brief spotlight in history, our season begins to disintegrate into the shadows. We need our stars to come alive, not on the mound, but behind the plate.
